Biography

Adair Sloan understands the meaning of work-life balance. The North-Carolina native works as an account executive in the healthcare and life sciences division at Microsoft and aims to advance her career with the help of an MBA. “I wasn't necessarily interested in pivoting or changing career paths. I just wanted to help myself in career advancement.”

In addition to working full time and getting her MBA, Adair is also engaged and set to be married in the next few months. She found the key to balancing it all is proper organization. “Work-life balance has definitely been an adjustment since starting the program. Life was already busy with work alone and now adding school on top of it, you just have to be really organized. I live by my Outlook calendar.”

Adair was all in at Emory as she and her fiancé both love Atlanta and all it has to offer. “I didn't apply to another school. If I got into Emory, then that was where I was going, and if I didn't, then I wasn't going.”

For Adair, one of the most beneficial aspects of the Evening MBA program is taking lessons learned in the classroom and being able to apply that knowledge directly to her job. Specifically, Goizueta's IMPACT course enabled her to break down complex problems and think more strategically. “I've been able to take this to my customers at Microsoft and help them to achieve their ultimate goal by breaking down their complex problems.”

Outside of the classroom, Adair has been able to improve her leadership skills, as well as learn how to be more empathetic to her classmates. “I've learned that everybody has competing priorities. I've learned to be more understanding and empathetic when things come up, because one day it will happen to me too, and I want to receive the same grace. I hope to take this in the future as I grow as a leader and care for my team and care for the people around me.”
