Biography
With both of his parents earning degrees at Emory, Sam Bailey knew exactly where he wanted to get his Evening MBA. “Atlanta's home for me. Born and raised here in Atlanta, Georgia. I looked at the various programs, and I found out, especially because of the focus on building networks and that cohort mentality, Emory was the best fit for me.”
After obtaining a degree in electrical engineering and a minor in theater, he set a roadmap of where he wanted to be in life, working hard to combine his talents to be a leader in the field. He currently works as a senior program manager at Panasonic Automotive, but he knew to excel, he needed to learn more about business. “I was able to get to the position as a program manager, and then a fitting complement to that was an MBA–being able to learn business concepts and ideas in real time while applying them at my job.”
With leadership being a core value at Goizueta, it wasn’t long before Sam was learning key skills he could apply both personally and professionally.
“The biggest thing that I've learned through the MBA program is that self-awareness and knowing yourself is a key attribute. In order to be a leader, how you show up as a leader is 100 percent indicative of your impact, both potentially and unintended. I think that Emory reaffirmed that through different professors reflecting on who I am—my goals, my intentions, and who I want to be as a human being and as a leader—which allows me to have that self-awareness so that when I show up, I'm showing up as that version of myself.”
